"This Date In History"

Rather simple game really... use any source you like to find famous/infamous events that happened on today's date (the current day you are posting) in history.
Can be just about anything really that can be verified on the internet: events, births, deaths, etc...
Your post should include the historical date (today's date of a previous year), then describe the event, and if you can post a link to a website detailing the event (not required but will make it fun). Try to be creative in your sources for events.
On this date, 1/12, in history:
Malcolm X's daughter, Qubilah Shabazz, is arrested for conspiring to kill Louis Farrakhan.
